Morning Focus
Minecraft: The Science of Amusement Parks
Heart-pounding fun, thrilling rides and attractions, the sights and sounds of amusement parks are one of a kind. In the Science of Amusement Parks, participants will work with instructors as part of a team to learn the basic science and engineering behind roller coasters and other amusement park attractions. We will use Minecraft to create virtual rides and attractions to experience the thrill of the turns, tunnels and drops!
Afternoon Focus
Minecraft Missions 4 Kids
Are you ready to join a team of pro-builders? Join our multiplayer servers to develop your construction, leadership and team skills to accomplish unique missions as part of a group. Use your imagination to collaborate with your fellow team members to design and build a large-scale Minecraft Mission; no two challenges are alike. Creativity, critical thinking and communication will be your keys to success! This offering can be taken multiple times, each session is unique.

Goals and Learning Objectives
  • Demonstrate understanding of physical forces in a virtual Minecraft world
  • Explore how the real-world effects of physics on a roller coasters and other amusement rides
  • Gain the ability to define and explain examples of kinetic and potential energy, friction and gravity
  • Understand what it takes to design and build your own theme park rides and attractions using Minecraft
  • Introduce participants to working in collaborative team-based environment in Minecraft EDU
  • Learn to develop projects as part of a team
  • Identify and set goals for construction
  • Learn to provide perspective to collaborators while following a general theme for building

  • Campers who will be rising 4th graders have the option to take this program, or the older camper program
  • We find the some rising 4th graders, and their parents, may find that their skills and/or personality work best with the younger or older campers. We leave the choice to the family on which program will work best for their children
